Construction has begun on Rick Judd Commons, a five-story affordable housing development at Rockridge Geotechncial’s 1313 Galindo Street site in Concord. The vast majority of the 62 units will be affordable for low-income residents, and one unit will be reserved for the property manager. Amenities will include common open space, a community room, and on-site parking for cars and bicycles.

Permits were issued for the supportive housing portion of a residential development called Phoenix Supportive Housing at 821 Pine Street in Oakland, one of Rockridge Geotechnical’s sites. The five-building complex, which sees its buildings’ heights range from one to five stories, hopes to create 101 affordable units and 205 market-rate units, as well as nearly 20,000 square feet of light industrial maker space. Furthermore, the development would include an administrative building with commercial and community spaces.

The City of San Francisco has opened the already-completed affordable supportive housing development at Rockridge Geotechnical’s site at 333 12th Street in San Francisco. Called City Gardens, the complex, which will create 200 units of permanent supportive housing, was the first in San Francisco to use the State Density Bonus program. The complex’s residents will also have access to support services like mental health counseling and case management.

Recently updated renderings show how a former private library may be renovated into a residential complex at Rockridge Geotechnical’s 2395 Sacramento Street site in San Francisco. For this complex to come to fruition, there would be a seven-story addition to the library on Sacramento Street and a six-story addition on Webster Street. The development would create 24 new homes, three of which would be affordable, as well as a shared ground-level amenity space. Moreover, the Sacramento Street and Webster Street additions will be separated by a private backyard and podium-top planters, while two glass bridges will connect the Webster Street addition to the library and to the Sacramento Street addition.

Construction will begin soon on an eight-story apartment complex at 2480 Bancroft Way in Berkeley, one of Rockridge Geotechnical’s sites. The development will create 28 new units of housing, with two of them being designated as affordable, as well as around 2,000 square feet of retail space. The complex will also include a rooftop deck with amenities.

Two preliminary applications were filed to construct housing at Rockridge Geotechnical’s site at 550 East Brokaw Road in San Jose. The first application details a potential capacity of 519 multifamily units while the second application proposes a capacity of 1,233 units, and both applications were filed under Senate Bill 330. The housing would replace an old Fry’s Electronics store on-site, which has a unique Mayan-based entryway; it is unclear if the entryway will be incorporated into the new housing development.

Rockridge Geotechnical’s 3905 Freedom Circle site in Santa Clara, which previously secured approval for a multi-phase mixed-use development, has been sold to a new owner. Although construction is yet to start, this development would contain 1,075 units of housing across three buildings, retail space, and a two-acre public park. Each of the three residential buildings would offer a club room, fitness center, co-working lounge, and pool decks.

A groundbreaking celebration was held for the two-building affordable housing development at 38889 Bell Street in Fremont, one of Rockridge Geotechnical’s sites. Called Bell Street Gardens, the project consists of redeveloping a motel on-site, which would create 79 new residential units, and constructing a new three-story building, creating an additional 49 units. All 128 units will be designated as affordable, with 25% of these units being reserved for tenants with special needs. Bell Gardens is also targeting LEED Gold efficiency, emphasizing environmental friendliness, and amenities include in-building resident services, an exercise room, community rooms, shared patios, and a landscaped courtyard.

Construction on Shirley Chisholm Village, a five-story affordable housing development at Rockridge Geotechnical’s site at 1360 43rd Avenue in San Francisco, has topped out. The complex will contain 135 apartments, 134 of which will be allocated for qualified educators that are designated as low- to moderate-income; the final unit will be for the building manager. The building will contain amenities such as a community plaza with a play area for children, two residential courtyards, and on-site parking for cars and bicycles.
