MidPen Housing recently announced the opening of the Kiku Crossing residential complex at Rockridge Geotechnical’s 400 East 5th Avenue site in San Mateo. All 225 units in the development will be affordable, and 25% of the units will be prioritized for public employees; additional units were made available for people who have experienced homelessness or disability.

Construction is making progress for the eight-story, 207-unit student housing complex at 1598 University Avenue in Berkeley, one of Rockridge Geotechnical’s sites. Of the 207 units, 21 will be allocated to very low-income households; the development will also include nearly 6,000 square feet of retail space and on-site parking for cars and bicycles. The complex, which is student-oriented, will provide 485 beds across the 52 units, and of these units, six will be affordable for very low-income households. The complex will be in a retail-rich area just an eight-minute walk from the UC Berkeley campus.

A new four-story, 39-unit supportive housing complex has opened at 1367 University Avenue near North Berkeley BART, one of Rockridge Geotechnical’s sites. On-site amenities include a community kitchen and private staff who help with case management, job navigation, mental health and addiction recovery, and applying for medical care benefits. Moreover, the building will be constructed around a landscaped courtyard with seating.
