The project revitalizes a former 157-acre steel foundry site into a compact, walkable, urban neighborhood with great streets, parks, and public amenities. The site is located along the Napa River in a former marsh. The new development involves raising site grades to account for future sea level rise while revitalizing historic features such as dry docks, sea walls, and gantry cranes.
The development includes the construction of commercial, single-family residential, multifamily residential, and affordable housing. Rockridge Geotechnical, Inc. (RG) performed multiple geotechnical investigations and reviewed existing subsurface data to develop design recommendations for the backbone infrastructure, including new bridges, new utilities, raised building pads, and pavements. In addition, RG performed engineering analysis of the existing historic features, such as the sea wall and dry docks along the waterfront.
RG also performed geotechnical services during the site's environmental remediation and are providing geotechnical observation and testing services during construction for the development, which began in 2021 with rough grading and a surcharge program to reduce the anticipated settlement of the marsh deposits.
