Alameda Marina/Estuary
The waterfront redevelopment at the Alameda Marina will boast 760 market-rate housing units, 104 affordable housing units, 180,000 square feet of commercial and maritime space, 530 boat slips, 3.5 acres of new parks, and a new Bay Trail with improved public shoreline access. During the first phase of construction, approximately 4,000 feet of shoreline has been rehabilitated or replaced to address future seismic and sea level rise hazards.

Rockridge Geotechnical (RG) performed a detailed geotechnical investigation for all phases of the site redevelopment, utilizing cone penetration testing (CPT), soil borings, and geophysical testing. RG evaluated geotechnical hazards at various areas across the site, including seismic stability of slopes and seawalls, liquefaction potential, and soft soil (Bay Mud) conditions. These hazards were addressed with a variety of techniques, including deep soil mixing (DSM), ground improvement, driven soldier-pile and sheet-pile walls, reinforced fill pads, and placement of lightweight fill.
Rockridge Geotechnical closely collaborated with the shoreline engineer and contractor to evaluate multiple seawall configurations and determine the most practical and cost-effective alternatives. As the design-build contractor, Keller North America won the 2022 Outstanding Project award from CalGeo for their work on the Alameda Marina.
