Enclave Apartments provides an independent-living option for continuing and transfer undergraduate students on the south side of the UC Berkeley campus. The building consists of five stories of wood-frame construction over a two-story reinforced concrete podium.
Rockridge Geotechnical (RG) performed the preliminary and final geotechnical investigations at the site, consulted with the project team during design, and provided geotechnical services during the project's construction. From our detailed subsurface investigation, the primary geotechnical concern was providing adequate support for the building and underpinning adjacent buildings. During design development, RG reviewed the geotechnical aspects of the plans and specifications for the project, summarized comments in plan review letters, and attended meetings, conference calls, and interacted with the design team as the design was finalized.
Services during construction included observing temporary shoring and performing field density tests for the building pad, utility trench backfill, sidewalk subgrade, and aggregate base preparation. RG also quickly responded to requests for information and submittals.
