Rockridge Geotechnical (RG) performed preliminary and final geotechnical investigations at the site, consulted with the project team during design, and provided geotechnical services during construction. The geotechnical aspects of the design were reviewed by UC Berkeley’s seismic review committee and peer reviewer.

Following the geotechnical investigations, Rockridge Geotechnical determined that the major geotechnical issues at the site were the shallow groundwater level relative to the proposed below-grade levels and providing suitable lateral support and dewatering for the required excavation.

To address these challenges, Rockridge Geotechnical recommended that the building be supported by a mat foundation bearing on native soil. In addition, RG provided detailed shoring and dewatering recommendations, including soil-cement mix shoring and tiebacks, to minimize the impact of construction on nearby improvements.
