The new Double Ground Project, which began construction in the Summer of 2022, consists of three mass timber structures atop a concrete podium level. This award-winning, one-of-a-kind building will allow for cross-discipline collaboration among students in a versatile space.
Rockridge Geotechnical (RG) performed a subsurface investigation at the site, prepared the project geotechnical report, responded to city and peer review comments, and is currently performing construction observation services. Identified geotechnical hazards at the site included liquefaction and lateral spread potential as well as highly variable thickness of soft soil (Bay Mud). Rockridge Geotechnical identified a practical and cost-effective way to address these hazards with a combination of a ground improvement buttress and deep foundations.
