Extra Storage Space

2390 Mariner Square Drive, Alameda, CA

New five-story storage facility providing at least 400 storage units in Alameda.

Site Square Footage: 110,844 sq. ft.

Date Completed: 2022

Client: Banner Real Estate Group

Architect: Sullivan Goulette & Wilson Architects

Structural Engineer: Martin/Martin

Civil Engineer: Blue Peak Engineering

General Contractor: ARCO Murray

Rockridge Geotechnical (RG) performed a preliminary and final investigation to support the design and construction of this building. The new five-story storage facility is located near Caltrans’ Posey Tube and the Bay. The site is underlain by soft soil deposits known locally as Bay Mud. RG also performed a site-specific hazard analysis that included site response analysis for seismic design.

The Civil Engineer determined that the site may be subject to sea level rise, which required the site to raise grades. The additional fill would cause excessive settlement, so auger-cast-in place (ACIP) piles were recommended to reduce future settlement. The proposed building was also near the existing Posey Tube tunnel. RG performed a supplemental load impact analysis and provided recommendations to minimize the impact of construction on the existing tunnel.

RG provided consultation during design and construction and observed the construction of the ACIP piles and backfill.
