Shirley Chisholm Village

1360 43rd Avenue, San Francisco, CA

Shirley Chisholm Village, named after the first Black woman elected to the United States Congress, will spread 135 units across multiple buildings. This will provide affordable housing and economic support for San Francisco Unified School District teachers and other staff members.

Site Square Footage: 60,000 sq. ft.

Date Completed: 2024

Client: MidPen Housing Corporation

Architect: BAR Architects

Structural Engineer: KPFF

Civil Engineer: Carlile Macy

General Contractor: Cahill Contractors

Rockridge Geotechnical (RG) performed a preliminary, supplemental, and final geotechnical investigation to support the design and construction of this educator housing complex. The development includes the construction of three buildings connected by pedestrian breezeways. The majority of the buildings will be constructed at-grade with portions of the buildings fronting along 43rd Avenue built partially below-grade. The primary geotechnical concerns at the site include the presence of loose to medium-dense poorly-compacted sand fill blanketing the site, adjacent buildings on two sides of the site, and providing adequate foundation support.
